Cube draft is a Magic: The Gathering format where a player builds a custom card pool which is then drafted by a group of players. Every cube is different, reflecting the taste and vision of whoever built it. For more information, check out Lucky Paper Radio's primer on cube.

Dallas Cube Classic will follow the emerging format of mid-sized cube events. If this is your first, here's what to expect.

The event includes four draft slots. In each slot, players will rank the cubes they're most interested in playing from those available. Everyone will be organized into pods of 8, assigning players their highest ranked choice as much as possible. There may not be a perfectly divisible number of players each round, so some pods may be slightly smaller. With an odd number, some players will receive a "bye" in some rounds after drafting.

During each draft, each pod will receive the cube, collaboratively shuffle and create packs, then draft, build decks, and play three best-of-three matches.

Judges and staff will help coordinate moving each pod through setup, drafting, and rounds of gameplay. Judges will also help with rules questions or fix game states if something goes awry. Your fellow pod mates will include veteran cubers who can help with logistical questions too.

Cube rankings and match pairings are organized through Hedron Network, a site built to facilitate cube events. Players will use it to submit a photo of all the cards they drafted at the beginning and end of each draft. Players will also report match results in Hedron Network to award points and determine the next round's pairings.

Points will be given for each match win. In the Sunday afternoon draft slot, the 8 players with the most points will face off in one pod. The winner will be crowned the Dallas Cube Classic champion. The rest of the pods in this slot will be organized by ranked cube choice as normal.

You don't need to participate in every draft slot. Pods will be generated just before each draft, so you can change your mind or opt out of any slot up to a few minutes before each draft begins.

No. All cubes are provided by the event. You just need to show up ready to play.

Each ticket covers the full weekend: four drafts total, two per day. Check the Discord for additional cubing opportunities in Dallas outside of the event.

Before the event, you'll be able to create an account on Hedron Network and rank the cubes you'd like to draft in each flight. Hedron Network will do its best to sort everyone into pods for cubes they'd like to play, while avoiding cubes they don't.

Dallas Cube Classic is a fun, casual, structured tournament conducted at "cube rules level enforcement (REL)", which emphasizes having fun and learning.

Yes! The winner of each pod will receive an enamel trophy pin, unique to this event. Players in the top 8 will receive custom top 8 playmats. The winner will receive a winner playmat and take home The Dallas Cube!

All ticket sales are final. Please reach out to event staff if you won't be able to attend, and we will do our best to help transfer your ticket to someone on the waitlist.

There will be a lunch break each day. Food is on your own, with plenty of options nearby.

This event is being organized by Bryce Hanson and the DFW cubing community. Bryce has played Magic since 2012 and has been an avid cuber since 2020. He has attended grassroots cube events in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New York and wanted to share that experience with Texas. He is also the creator and curator of Profoundly Peasant, Leniently Legacy, and Dramatically Discarded cubes.
